Me and Myself:

Black and White:

Collage:

In this Collage I tried to convey the message that beauty doesn’t have just one form. I took the faces of multiple models and “Frankenstein” them into one face with the background being several magazine covers. What this collage is saying is that beauty doesn’t have just ONE face, it can come in many forms.

FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY:

the lighting and composition can play a crucial role in enhancing its natural beauty and appeal. The lighting can highlight the crisp texture and the vibrant colors of the apple, making it look fresh and juicy. The composition can also help to create a sense of depth and dimension, making the apple appear more inviting and tempting.

To achieve such lighting, photographers often use natural light or soft light, which can create a soft and diffused glow. They may also use reflectors or diffusers to control the intensity and direction of the light. The composition can be achieved through various techniques, such as playing with the placement of the apple, using a shallow depth of field, or incorporating other elements that can enhance the overall appeal of the photo. The goal is to create an image that not only captures the beauty of the apple but also makes the viewer crave it.

  1. Choose the right background and props that complement the food and enhance the overall composition.
  2. Use natural light or diffused light to capture the food’s texture, color, and shape.
  3. Shoot from different angles to create variety and capture the food’s details.
  4. Consider the focal point of the photo and use a shallow depth of field to draw attention to it.
  5. Style the food to make it look more appealing and visually interesting.
  6. Use a tripod to keep the camera steady and avoid blur.
  7. Experiment with different camera settings, such as aperture and shutter speed, to achieve the desired effect.
  8. Shoot in RAW format to have more control over the final image during post-processing.
  9. Edit the photo to enhance its colors, brightness, and contrast, but avoid over-processing.
  10. Pay attention to the details, such as crumbs or drips, to make the photo look more realistic and inviting.

Fashion Photos:

Overall I really liked these photos because of the Black and white color contrast as well as the energy that comes off of these photos. Some of these photos look like they could be used to market an Apple IPhone while others could market mens fashion and apparel.

David Hockney

Critique: What really stood out to me about David Hockneys work is its uniqueness and the “visual trip” of his art. A lot of his work in a way to me looks like a video game world that is loading in and his artwork is that “loading” phase of a video game. For example this artwork David hockney was able to use several photos of one person to create a new “face”. He re-constructed someones face by taking individual photos of different parts of the womans face and made a new “whole” image. In a way it also reminds me of a Frankenstein type project where you’re piecing together a person. Or better yet, like a puzzle.

Ted Talk:

The Ted Talk impossible photography presented by Erik Johanson, he talks about his unique photography. He opens up with his belief that photography is about simply capturing the right moment at the right time. He did not like this, he thought it was too easy. Instead, he opted to add his own style to photography. His style was all about capturing an idea, rather than a moment. He wanted to make that idea look like it could have been captured. What he means when he talks about this is his photos are unusual and absurd yet at the same time, they are realistic. From a man ironing his clothes while he is wearing them to a construction truck playing a child’s game on pavement. His work is all about capturing the possibility of things.

Erik further explored of what makes “Impossible Photography”, Impossible. He discussed how the allusion was the single most important factor. Was it the light? Could it be the perspective or maybe even the objects in the photo? All of these play an important role in the allusion. One of his works showed a busy cross section that is mirrored. Here the perspective was the allusion. The way that the viewer interprets the artwork also is a contributing factor in the allusion and the overall success of the artwork. The ability to take parts of reality and manipulate it to fit an idea that is regarded as “impossible” is the point of this photography. Manipulating everyday things and adding a twist of creativity and fantasy is what impossible Phtography is all about.

To make Impossible photography you need to meet three rules to follow: Combine similar images with the same perspective. The photos should have the exact same type of lighting (studio, streetlight, natural, etc.). Being able to merge the photos together to make it impossible to distinguish where the different images begin and end. This in other words is combing them to make it seamless. What really interested me about these types of projects is that each photo always starts with an idea, then combining the photographs and further editing them. Erik said each project can contains hundreds of layers. That is crazy to think about. Erik closes off the ted talks with saying, “The only thing that limits us is our imagination.”

Indeed Job Search:

  • “Perfect for Students. Sales Photographer in the restaurant.” Ontario, CA.

This Job seems like a great Entry level photography gig. This Job listing says they offer fulltime and part time openings, and the Job Duties include taking promotional photos in a restaurant and selling photo packages. For this Job I could include experience in my Formal Education in photography as well as show samples of my work.  Equipment is included so I will not need much on my end apart from skill and experience.

  • “Photographer” Corona Motors Direct. Norco, CA

The Job Description details a “Passionate Photographer” that can capture moments on film to tell a story. This seems like a fairly “entry-level” friendly Job; However, I think this Job may not be quite a good fit for me since I am still inexperienced din photography, and this Job requires 2 years of experience in Photography. Although I do meet these qualifications since I have taken Digital Photo 1 and 2, this Job seems to be directed towards those that have more experience- Intermediate.

  • “Local Marketing Specialist” Freedom in Motion. Riverside CA

This Job seems to be marketed more towards Photographer that have Intermediate level skills. They offer Part-time and Full-time openings where you will need to capture photos and videos of Training sessions in gyms for Marketing Purposes. Personally, this would be a Job I would be interested in since this company is all about reaching out to people to get them into fitness. This Job mixes two of my interests: Fitness in the Gym and Photography. I think I would be qualified to take this Job since the Job does not entitle any crazy “unique” skills, just basic knowledge on how to use a camera and shoot quality photos and videos.

Depth of Field:

Writing Assignment:

  1. Aperture is the control of your depth of field. Shutter speed allows you to shoot fast moving object’s but can be used for low-light. ISO is used for different lighting, high ISO in low lighting etc.
  2. You would need to change your ISO whenever you’re shooting in different types of lighting.
  3. Aperture priority is when the camera varies the exposure settings depending on the aperture value that’s set. Shutter priority works the same as aperture priority but lets you shoot fast moving object’s.
  4.  Af mods are different modes that let you shoot photos under different situations: One-shot only focuses on one “target”. Servo AF wont lock onto a specific target which is great for sports, etc. etc.
  5.  Light metering is important as it helps get the right exposure in the camera which in turn will help you shoot a good photo.
  6. White Balance is setting that lets you adjust how colors are seen in the image and its important to constantly change this setting under different types of lighting and also to help your photograph come out more natural looing
  7. Depth of field is the cameras focus on an object. Shallow DOP is creating a focus only one a single objects and keeping the foreground in focus. Good DOP is keeping the foreground and the background in focus.
  8.  The drive modes are CL, CH and Single shot. Single shot is used for studio work since you have complete control. CL is great for portraits and CH is great for sports. There’s 3 types of Metering modes and each metering mode has a different purpose, i.e. one can be used to calculate the light of the scene, etc.
  9. Exposure compensation is a scale that allows you to gradually increase or decrease exposure. Exposure compensation worse for all semi automatic modes.
